Planning Solicitor | Southampton | 3+ PQE

If you've already cut your teeth on planning law and are now looking for a role where you can build a real reputation in the market, this could be the opportunity that takes you there. This is a chance to step into one of the South Coast's most respected planning teams, ranked among the top in the country, and work on high-profile, complex development projects that will shape towns, communities, and industries for years to come.

The Role

You'll join a collaborative, ambitious team that is trusted by leading developers, landowners, and local authorities. Your role will give you real variety, from the technical to the strategic, including:

  • Advising on all aspects of planning law including applications, appeals, enforcement, and judicial review
  • Drafting and negotiating Section 106 agreements, unilateral undertakings, and complex planning obligations
  • Working on high-value residential, commercial, and mixed-use development schemes, as well as niche projects in retirement living, leisure, ports, and marinas
  • Advising on hot-topic issues such as biodiversity net gain, nutrient neutrality, and climate adaptation obligations
  • Supporting developers, land promoters, and local authorities with practical, commercially focused solutions
  • Building relationships with planners, consultants, and environmental experts, becoming a trusted advisor in the process

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with solid planning law experience who's ready to take on more responsibility and exposure. Specifically:

  • A qualified solicitor with 3+ PQE
  • Strong drafting skills, particularly with Section 106 agreements and planning obligations
  • Excellent communication and the confidence to engage directly with clients and stakeholders
  • A proactive, commercially aware mindset, able to provide not just legal advice but practical solutions

Why This Role?

This is more than just a move, it's a genuine chance to build your career in a nationally recognised planning practice. You can expect:

  • Work-life balance with hybrid and flexible working arrangements and the South Coast lifestyle on your doorstep
  • Progression with clear pathways for development and exposure to some of the UK's most significant planning work
  • Variety with a caseload spanning residential-led schemes, commercial developments, environmental challenges, and infrastructure
  • Autonomy with support, managing your own matters with partner-level guidance always on hand
  • Growth in an environment that encourages you to carve out a niche, build your network, and become a recognised planning specialist

If you're ready to move into a role where your expertise will make a visible impact, both on your career and on the landscape of the South, we'd love to hear from you.
