Join to apply for the Power Systems Consultant role at TipTopJob. Location: Birmingham. Salary: A GBP Negotiable, dependent on experience. Status: Permanent. We are seeking experienced Power Systems Consultants to support the mission to drive Net Zero innovation. The role involves work across a team of engineers, researchers and policy experts addressing complex energy challenges, from cutting-edge modelling to Smart Grid technology, influencing the transition to a low-carbon power system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Technical Lead/Work package Lead on projects, providing power systems SME input, defining scope, and providing oversight and technical assurance. Project areas include transmission and distribution networks, flexibility services, operability, DSO transition and Smart Grid technologies.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners; provide technical expertise on the power system and shape innovative solutions.
  • Lead/support development of innovation priorities and bid proposals for funding opportunities including Network Innovation Allowance (NIA) and Strategic Innovation Funding (SIF).
  • Lead/support thought leadership on challenges to meet Net Zero, including electricity markets and network charging, future operability with renewable integration, flexibility and storage, and the future role of power systems in the Net Zero journey (transmission, distribution, cross-vector).
  • Lead/support representation of power systems within modelling tools, including construction of network models, analysis of partner-provided data, and software integration of power systems models with others.
  • Prepare written materials including technical reports, briefing materials, discussion papers and consultation responses.

Experience Required

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (higher degree advantageous).
  • Strong knowledge of the GB power system, with expertise in design, operation, or network planning.
  • Skilled in power system tools (IPSA, DIgSILENT, Plexos, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards it (desirable).
