Overview

Pricing Manager (Product) – UK: London, York, Colchester. Full-time. Location: UK. This role sits within the UK Pricing team, part of the Portfolio Underwriting and Pricing function, with a focus on product-facing pricing and stakeholder engagement.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a team of analysts (five) and providing development and coaching to support their growth.
  • Working with the Head of Portfolio Underwriting and Pricing to define and implement the strategy for the product-facing pricing team in line with the UK strategy.
  • Taking accountability for the recommendations of the product-facing pricing team and the performance of all pricing models produced by the team.
  • Being the primary point of contact for heads of underwriting and distribution to connect with the wider portfolio underwriting and pricing team, and helping them achieve their objectives.
  • Overseeing end-to-end pricing changes to deliver budgeted volume and profitability, including concept design, financial and customer impact modelling, governance papers, and ensuring governance and change cycles to implementation.
  • Collaborating with senior stakeholders to analyse trends (quote conversion, policy retention, customer behavior, claims experience) to drive business-aligned improvements.
  • Maintaining and implementing production prices for all UK products, including end-to-end delivery of simple pricing changes and collaborating with change teams and business analysts on complex pricing changes.
  • Working with the technical pricing team to ensure models (risk and demand) support business needs and pricing recommendations.
  • Applying understanding of underwriting cycles, external market conditions, and regulatory environment to pricing decisions, ensuring fair treatment of customers and alignment with Hiscox values.
  • Designing pricing for new products and propositions, acting as the business change owner within projects, and managing expectations and timelines for the pricing workstream.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of new technologies (cloud data warehouses, data-visualisation, and new pricing software).
  • Providing independent review and recommendations for senior underwriting management on large individual case risks.

Person Specification

Hiscox values collaboration and commercial focus. The role requires someone who is comfortable engaging across the business, leveraging the output from the technical pricing team, and balancing market conditions with business initiatives to support growth and profitability. You should be naturally inquisitive, able to challenge the status quo, and capable of driving continuous improvement in pricing algorithms while working closely with the portfolio underwriting team.

  • Experience in operational research or a related mathematical field is desirable.
  • Broad knowledge of general insurance pricing across products and channels, with deep knowledge of at least two products.
  • Experience in managing or supervising a team of analysts and in end-to-end pricing analysis, recommendations, and delivery of pricing proposals.
  • Ability to influence decisions with significant commercial impact; strong balance between analytical quality and business needs.
  • Proficiency with data tools (Excel, SQL) and knowledge of programming/statistical tools (Python, Emblem, SAS).
  • Strong numeric skills, data gathering/manipulation abilities, and excellent communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and building strong working relationships; comfortable with R&D and exploring new data sources and modelling techniques.
  • Desire to work in a deadline-driven, proactive, and self-starting environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and competitive environment.

  • Good knowledge of regulatory and competitive environment.
