Are you a strategic leader with a passion for raising educational standards and improving outcomes for all children? West Berkshire Council is seeking an exceptional Principal Adviser for School Improvement to lead our School Improvement and Governance Team. This is a senior role at the heart of our Education Service, offering you the opportunity to:

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for school improvement across all phases of education.
  • Work directly with headteachers, senior leaders and governors to drive high standards.
  • Oversee school performance monitoring, intervention and statutory processes.
  • Lead on the School Improvement Strategy, ensuring strong system-led improvement.
  • Shape and deliver traded services that provide high quality challenge and support.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the wider Education and SEND service, ensuring effective governance, safeguarding, and positive outcomes for all children.

You will also lead, inspire and manage a multi-disciplinary team including School Effectiveness Advisers, Early Years, Post-16 and Governance officers.

About You

  • A recognised teaching qualification and proven senior leadership experience in schools.
  • A successful track record in raising standards and improving educational outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of the curriculum, assessment, Ofsted frameworks and national education policy.
  • Excellent skills in strategic planning, performance monitoring and partnership working.
  • The ability to inspire confidence, influence key stakeholders, and champion the needs of all children, including the most vulnerable.

Experience as an Ofsted inspector, and/or further professional qualifications, would be an advantage.

  • You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 30 days per annum (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service.

All roles will be subject to an annual banding pay review until the top of the pay grade is reached (following successfully passing probation). All roles will be eligible for the annual national pay award.
