Overview
Principal Android Engineer role at Nucoro (acquired by Backbase). Location: Cardiff — Hybrid. Backbase builds AI-powered, secure, enterprise-grade digital banking software used daily by millions of people worldwide.
What you'll do
- Lead the AI-native engineering of our product across the software development lifecycle, enforcing and refining engineering best practices and continually evolving to use AI in practices.
- Design, build and maintain one or more capabilities for the Backbase Mobile Platform within a multidisciplinary squad.
- Deliver end-to-end solutions from concept to production-ready applications; translate complex business requirements into technical designs and implementations.
- Contribute to all aspects of product development: requirements gathering, implementation, testing, documentation, and providing product adoption support.
- Lead, mentor and coach colleagues, guiding their professional growth and upholding engineering standards across the product.
- Proactively explore and apply AI tools and agentic frameworks (e.g., code generation, test automation, dev productivity) to improve engineering workflows and product capabilities.
Who you are
- 8+ years of relevant experience working on complex Android-based products.
- Banking domain experience is a welcome bonus.
- Experience translating high-level business requirements into technical designs, including security and non-functional requirements, and coaching peers to do the same.
- Strong engineering culture across the SDLC, with Agile practices to deliver a complete product.
- CI/CD practices are a plus, ideally with Bitrise and GitHub Actions.
- Knowledge of AI practices and the ability to propose innovative uses of AI.
- You are proficient in Android development and can share best practices with the team.
- Technical experience with architecture patterns such as MVI, MVVM, VIPER or MVP; experience developing SDKs used by internal and external teams.
