Overview

Take up a vital role in shaping projects within a national delivery team of Building Design professionals. This role involves client-facing duties and the day-to-day design of projects. You will work with AtkinsRéalis international Global Technology Centre (GTC) to add value to building services projects and collaborate with our BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit and digital tools. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture, with openings in Cardiff and Swansea offices that support national and international project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
  • Design and specification of all Electrical Building Services systems - power, earthing, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, lightning protection, etc.
  • Carry out detailed calculations using industry standard software tools (e.g., Excel, Amtech, Dialux/Relux) and prepare technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) and our BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit and digital tools.
  • Represent AtkinsRéalis at meetings with clients and contractors; conduct site surveys and inspections; monitor site works; write reports and technical notes.
  • Maintain complete records and archives to company standards; adhere to quality, environmental and governance processes.
  • Manage own workload, update forward plans, and work to time allocations.
  • Manage elements of project delivery and understand budget costings.
  • Review progress, report anomalies and scope changes to the project lead; assist with the technical development of junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Building Services Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related subjects.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards CEng) with CIBSE or IET. Proficient with Amtech/Prodesign/Electrical OM, Dialux/Relux, NBS and Microsoft packages; HV tools beneficial.
  • Aware of energy reduction methods and decarbonising approaches for new and existing buildings.
  • Experience with energy and carbon data capture and analytics; knowledge of building physics (passive design solutions and fabric-first approaches).
  • Experience in measuring, verifying, commissioning and post-installation evaluation of performance.
  • Experience in design consultancy and/or contractor design environments; solid knowledge of relevant technical standards.
  • Ability to take charge of personal deliverables, act on initiative, and work proactively.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills; comfortable attending client meetings.
  • Ability to work within time and cost budgets; willingness to undertake other reasonable tasks as required.
