Overview

iO Associates have partnered with a specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead the development of complex mechanical systems across aerospace, defence, and high-performance technology sectors. This is a senior technical leadership role offering autonomy, cross‑functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape design capability within a high‑talent team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead 3D CAD design from concept through to detailed development
  • Review and approve technical drawings and design schemes
  • Collaborate with structural and fluids analysts to resolve design challenges
  • Conduct internal and external design reviews
  • Support the Chief Engineer and contribute to technical governance
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, promoting best practice

What You'll Bring

  • Expert‑level experience in mechanical design and CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, and performance
  • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
