What You'll Do:
As a Principal Design Engineer at Mayer Brown, you will play a key role in shaping and driving our projects forward. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and contribute to a wide range of transport planning projects that prioritise sustainability, active modes of travel, and people-focused places.
- Maintain an excellent understanding and interpretation of applicability of Manual for Streets, LTN1/20, and DMRB in various circumstances.
- Support the preparation of feasibility studies and technical reports.
- Use GIS tools (AutoCAD and Civil 3D) to support design development at concept, preliminary and detailed design stages.
- Collaborate with clients, local authorities, and design teams to develop integrated, sustainable mobility solutions.
- Apply knowledge of health and safety legislation and the CDM Regulations, including the responsibilities of the Designer role.
- Help manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members and contribute to team development.
- Assist with business development, including proposal writing and client engagement.
What We're Looking For:
We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer with strong AutoCAD and Civils 3D skills to join our offices at Mayer Brown Limited. This exciting role focuses on delivering sustainable transport, active travel, and placemaking projects.
You will be organised, capable of managing multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively, and demonstrate good time management. A creative mindset would be advantageous. Additionally, you will be self-motivated, able to conduct independent research, and produce high-quality reports.
Experience
- A degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working on public highway schemes, active travel routes and urban realm projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civils 3D, AutoTrack and KeySign
- A genuine interest in sustainable transport, walking and cycling infrastructure, and placemaking.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and engaging reports and presentations.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE) is advantageous.
