With ambitious growth plans, SYSTRA Ltd is at an exciting juncture as we continue to expand and enhance our presence in the UK & Ireland. We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services) to join our MEP engineering team. You will lead building services design projects for key infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland, with opportunities for global project involvement. The role can be based in our offices in York, Manchester, Birmingham, or Reading and offers a hybrid working model with an average of three days spent in SYSTRA or client offices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Electrical Engineers reporting to the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E.
  • Act as MEP Contractor Responsible Engineer (CRE) and/or Lead Engineer on MEP projects allocated by the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E.
  • Ensure projects meet all client requirements and applicable standards.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the agreed programme and budget.
  • Plan project works and provide forward‑view resource forecasting to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resources.
  • Identify changes to client requirements and raise them with the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Provide monthly cost‑to‑complete forecasts to the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Ensure training and development needs of the electrical team are met to serve the clients’ and projects’ requirements.
  • Promote and uphold SYSTRA’s six key Industry Safety Rules: Commitment, Leadership, Openness, Reporting, Responsibility, and Measurement.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of electrical services design within the built environment and/or transport infrastructure including low‑voltage distribution, lighting, small power, containment, earthing, fire alarms and intruder alarms.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of multi‑disciplinary M&E and building services issues.
  • Apply knowledge of construction principles and standards.
  • Understand CSM/CDM regulations and requirements.
  • Communicate and present to clients and external parties.
  • Manage relationships with external parties, other internal discipline teams, and promote a “One Team” ethos.
  • Maintain relationships with offshore Production Centres (if applicable).

Qualifications

  • Ideal Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
  • Qualified to HNC or equivalent.
  • Significant engineering design and site experience in a similar consultancy or contractor organisation.
  • Experience with Electric Vehicle charging point infrastructure design (advantageous).
  • Experience in working with offshore Production Centres.
  • Professional experience to manage complex or non‑standard design solutions.
