Overview

Job title: Principal Engineers – Electrical Engineering (Power) | Location: Barrow-In-Furness (Hybrid) – Barrow: 2 days onsite per fortnight; Filton: 1 day onsite per week as required by business needs. Salary: Up to £57,500 (commensurate with skills and experience).

Responsibilities

  • Develop design solutions to meet agreed time, cost and quality targets in accordance with project or business milestones.
  • Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria for a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme.
  • Understand contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence and justifications.
  • Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
  • Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it to support bids, proposal development and project planning for various systems.
  • Provide support to Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical arguments clearly, logically and simply.
  • Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution and change management.

What you’ll bring

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent and CEng (or ability to satisfy requirements for CEng).
  • Demonstrable experience of the engineering lifecycle.
  • Understanding of at least one of: power system modelling; generators; switchgear; protection; power electronics.
  • In-depth understanding of Power System Architecture, Power and Distribution, Protection and Co-ordination or Power Earth Fault Monitoring.
  • Significant knowledge of AC and DC electrical power systems.
  • Experience in a relevant engineering role to industry codes and standards.

The Electrical Engineering Power Team leads the development of design documents, reviews supplier documentation, develops technical requirements and assesses design compliance to support the development of our electrical systems.
