Your new role, what’s involved

As a Principal Fire Engineer, you’ll typically work on a variety of projects at once, from universities in Scotland to high‑rise residential towers in London, including international projects. You will:

  • Run through design information and liaise with other WSP disciplines (Facades, Acoustics, Structures).
  • Present designs to local authorities and the Fire Service.
  • Inform the design team about changes to increase the safety of the building.
  • Be guided through software packages, fire standards, team briefings and client updates.

You will be supported toward professional registration via IFE and other professional bodies. WSP offers a bespoke development programme for fire engineers to gain professional skills and technical development opportunities, including training in technical report writing, project management, communication, commercial concepts, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with design information and cross‑discipline coordination.
  • Coordinate with authorities and stakeholders to secure compliance and safety.
  • Contribute to the design team’s safety strategies and recommendations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and chartership activities.

Qualifications

  • BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience within the fire engineering consulting industry.
  • Role can be based from any of WSP’s UK major offices.
