About the Role

Altrad Babcock’s Asset Management division delivers specialist engineering services that help clients optimise asset integrity, reduce costs, and manage risk across the full lifecycle. As we expand into global low-carbon energy and infrastructure markets, we’re seeking a motivated and technically skilled professional to take on the role of Principal Engineer within our Static Engineering team in Renfrew.

This team provides consultancy across power generation (thermal, nuclear, renewables), process industries, oil & gas, petrochemicals, and emerging fusion energy sectors. Reporting to the Static Engineering Group Leader, the Principal Engineer will lead integrity-focused projects, mentor engineers, and drive technical excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integrity assessments using industry codes and analytical tools.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and standards.
  • Support multi-disciplinary projects with technical input.

Client Engagement

  • Provide expert advice on integrity issues.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions and reviews.

Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and guide engineers and technicians.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and company processes.
  • Champion standardised practices and contribute to lessons learned.

Innovation & Growth

  • Identify opportunities for technical and process improvements.
  • Expand the group’s capabilities through new tools and techniques.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Strong background in mechanical integrity and pressure equipment.
  • Proficient in FEA and pressure vessel design software.
  • Deep knowledge of API-, BS, ASME / EN Boiler and Pressure Vessel codes, and UK / EU regulations.
  • Experience managing engineering projects to budget and schedule.

Desirable Tools

  • Familiarity with software such as ANSYS, PV Elite, Crackwise, Caesar II, STAAD.Pro, AVEVA, Probad.

Typical Duties

  • Lead technical reviews and ensure quality delivery.
  • Manage project resources, costs, and timelines.
  • Oversee design and assessment of pressure vessels and pipework.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and develop remediation strategies.
  • Perform Fitness-for-Service and fracture mechanics assessments.
  • Evaluate damage mechanisms (e.g., creep, fatigue) and recommend actions.
