Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join our Fire Team. This consultancy role requires proven experience in technical fire engineering across various sectors in a client‑focused environment.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver projects from inception to completion, independently managing CFD, evacuation modelling and other analytical fire engineering tasks.
  • Manage design projects, prepare and review work of others.
  • Apply UK regulations and markets across diverse sectors, developing innovative solutions.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Lead accurate cost estimation for technical fire engineering efforts.
  • Drive the performance and review process for junior engineers, setting SMART goals.
  • Mentor staff on the path to chartership.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification.
  • Chartered status (CEng) in Fire Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in a consultancy or related business.
  • Demonstrated work in multiple sectors with UK fire engineering focus.
  • Managed fire engineering for small‑to‑medium projects within timescales and budgets.
  • Guided entry‑level engineers.
  • Prepared fee proposals and task variations for fire engineering activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Led and supervised junior engineers on people and project matters.
  • Documented professional development and learning history.
