AtkinsRéalis Building Design Practice is looking to appoint a Fire Engineer who will develop their career within a forward-thinking, multi-sector practice. This role involves working as part of a national practice delivering fire engineering design solutions across sectors including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential and Transportation.

There is flexibility around where the role is based; while the majority of our Fire Engineering team are based in Derby and London, we aim to grow teams in the North and Southwest. Preferred UK locations: Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London or Derby.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for own projects and collaborate with other senior team members to develop the team and strengthen technical capability.
  • Work across sectors from residential buildings through rail transportation or new energy facilities.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects from inception through delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes.
  • Support delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
  • Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
  • Develop fire engineering solutions on projects and ensure the fire engineering strategy is delivered.
  • Assess fire-related risks and collaborate to mitigate where possible.
  • Develop and support junior engineers.
  • Review and comment on the quality of fire safety-related installations.
  • Undertake tenders for new work and develop client relationships with existing clients.
  • Lead medium-sized projects day-to-day.
  • Prepare and review reports; lead fire engineering workshops.

What you can bring

  • Engineering degree, preferably fire engineering, or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering (candidates with different backgrounds will also be considered).
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering fire safety projects; experience in other sectors also considered. 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with fire standards such as BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545 (beneficial).
  • Fire modelling experience is beneficial; experience outside the building sector would be advantageous.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance, ideally without caveats, would be highly beneficial.
  • Associate membership of the IFE, working toward full membership.
  • A flexible approach to the working environment and working toward Chartership.
  • Willingness to travel is a positive advantage.
  • Good commercial awareness and customer focus.
  • Ability to collate information and maintain a clear, structured approach to report writing.
