Principal Geomorphologist – ESI Limited, now part of Stantec

Stantec seeks an experienced consultant to join our Flood and Water Management team. This role is ideally based in Reading, but other locations will be considered for the right candidate. This is a key role with opportunities to grow your personal profile and learn new skills while contributing to a busy water management practice.

Our clients include a mix of public and private sector organisations across the UK. We work on projects ranging from policy and modelling-based assessments to the detailed design of flood management and river restoration schemes, with a primary focus on supporting river restoration and development projects.

About you

You will hold a BSc/BEng/MEng/MSc and be Chartered (or near-chartered) through the relevant institution (ICE/CIWEM). You should be able to demonstrate significant technical leadership and delivery experience in complex water and environmental projects, in one or more of the following areas:

• Geomorphology and fluvial audits
• River engineering, restoration/habitat improvement, flood alleviation schemes
• Habitats Directive and Water Framework Directive assessments
• Flood risk assessments, development resilience and environmental statements
• River and sediment hydraulic modelling
• Catchment-based approaches to sustainable water and sediment management

You will be ambitious, forward-thinking and focused on delivering quality design solutions. A collaborative mindset and a strong client-focused approach are essential.

Responsibilities

You will lead the full project lifecycle from initial enquiry through to successful delivery, manage other team members, and foster relationships across the business. You will provide support to the eco-services sector, delivering fluvial audits, river restoration and geomorphology assessments, and contribute to WFD Assessments, EIA, flood risk assessments, drainage designs and option reporting for a range of project scales. You will liaise with design teams and client representatives and support the Water Management Team and Project Directors to develop the role of a principal consultant.

Projects span river restoration schemes, habitat creation, flood risk assessments and flood alleviation for public and private sector clients. You should be passionate about improving the water environment and delivering high-quality, client-focused services.
