Your impact

Jacobs is playing a leading role in the global energy transition. As our UK and Continental Europe team continues to expand, we are seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio, including high voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery for cable system projects up to 400 kV from tendering through to project handover.
• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept and detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
• Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, attend and conduct internal and external meetings.
• Perform technical calculations including cable sizing, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath‑induced voltage calculations and more.
• Review designs and verify compliance with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good working relations with client, designers and the supply chain.
• Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction.
• Complete inspection and test plans as required by the PMP/specification.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
• Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.
• Experience designing HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC systems.
