Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydraulic Modeller in our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
At AECOM, we deliver an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with local government, contractors, charities and water companies. In this role, you will be one of the lead technical team members supporting junior members to deliver top quality projects. The team in Edinburgh collaborates with the wider AECOM group to deliver large-scale multidiscipline projects across the UK and Ireland.
We have a collaborative approach and strive to develop strong relationships within the Water Team and across Energy, Environmental and Transportation sectors. We are a dynamic team looking to grow and support the Water Teams across our UK offices.

Responsibilities
- Lead on developing the technical approach for modelling, hydrology and flooding projects – supported by the wider team.
- Deliver technically challenging projects for key clients.
- Support the team in fulfilling a thorough quality assurance process.
- Provide clients with technical input to support informed decisions.
- Provide mentoring for junior team members, helping them develop and progress towards chartered status.
Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 700 experts across the UK & Ireland, including 60 team members in Edinburgh who you’d work directly with. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of projects from concept to completion.
Qualifications
- A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, GIS, Geography, or similar subject.
- Chartered member or approaching chartership with ICE or CIWEM.
- Experience in Hydraulic Modelling, GIS or Data Analysis, particularly ArcGIS.
- Detailed understanding of hydrology in the UK and worldwide.
- Experience in fluvial, pluvial and integrated Hydraulic Modelling, e.g., Innovyze ICM or Floodmodeller/Tuflow.
- Experience being the technical lead on hydrology and hydraulic modelling projects.
- Proven experience in water consultancy.
