Join our dynamic Nature team as Principal Marine Ecologist in one of our offices across the UK and Ireland, working on national and international projects in high‑profile power, offshore wind, interconnectors, habitat restoration studies, flood defence schemes, and coastal developments. You will be client‑facing, responsible for technical project delivery and business development, reporting to the Marine Ecology Lead.ResponsibilitiesSubject Matter Expert: Provide technical marine ecological and marine consenting advice, internally and externally. Direct inputs to a wide range of workstreams across major projects, delivering marine ecology impact assessments, EIA or DCO development cycles, HRA, MCZ, WFD, and licence and permitting applications.Ensure Quality: Deliverables produced to the highest quality standards, compliance with rigorous quality management procedures, excellent writing and communication skills for different audiences.Collaborate: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve environmental outcomes; specialists in underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water scientists, marine archaeologists, and EIA colleagues.Growth and Business Development: Contribute to marine ecology team “win” by developing technical and fee proposals, marketing and business development, presenting to internal and external audiences, and client liaison.Project Management: Act as an effective project manager, managing resources and budgets, reporting progress to clients and internal teams, procure and manage specialist subcontractors when needed, and receive project management training to become a AECOM accredited PM.Mentoring: Develop and train marine ecology team members, creating a supportive environment for individuals to thrive.QualificationsComprehensive marine ecological expertise with demonstrable experience in preparing and reviewing specialist technical chapters and all associated impact assessments (EIA, HRA, MCZ, WFD).Detailed understanding of marine consenting and licensing regimes across the UK, experience liaising with and submitting licence applications to key regulatory bodies (MMO, NRW, Scottish MD, The Crown Estate).Ability to provide technical advice and application of advanced scientific practices, theories and technologies for a diverse range of marine projects.Team coordination experience, including line management and mentorship of junior team members.Business development experience, including preparing tenders and client presentations.EEO StatementAll applicants and current employees at AECOM are considered for all positions regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, advanced disability, advanced veteran status, advanced military service, or any other status protected by any applicable federal, state, local, or other jurisdiction.
