Join a major UK Rail company with an excellent reputation in Rolling Stock projects delivery & consultancy. Ganymede Solutions is partnering with a leading Rail Company to recruit an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer for their growing rolling stock consultancy business.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering top-tier engineering solutions to clients in the rolling stock sector, including services to conventional rail, high-speed, light rail, and metro clients. Your responsibilities will include leading major project delivery, supporting bid work from technical and commercial perspectives, and working directly with clients to deliver engineering solutions in fleet maintenance, overhaul/modification, obsolescence, reliability, performance, and systems design & build.

Your work will involve technical investigations, design support, feasibility studies, root cause analysis, technical specifications, component/system design or improvements, and maintainability/asset cost enhancements. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead the technical engineering consultancy within client accounts/projects. This position is customer-facing, requiring confidence in discussing engineering problems and solutions with clients and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Minimum of a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership with professional registration.
  2. At least 10+ years in a technical engineering role.
  3. Experience with Engineering Change Assurance Processes & Documentation.
  4. Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, preferably within rolling stock, but candidates from other sectors with complex mechanical systems in regulated industries (transportation, aviation, maritime, nuclear, mining, automotive, heavy machinery) will be considered.
  5. Additional desirable skills include experience in structures, vehicle integrity, metallurgy, or mechanical design, though specialists are not required.
