Principal scientist, Oncology (3D In Vitro Modelling - Micofluidics)
New Today
Overview
The Oncology Translational Research team will partner with other Oncology Therapy Area team members to increase clinical translatability and to contribute to preclinical development programs within GSK Oncology TA. The successful candidate will work in a small team involved in the establishment of a new organoid-on-a-chip platform combined with a microfluidic system and single cell detection. This research platform will be used to develop and implement cutting-edge cellular, genomic and molecular techniques with a multimodality analytic approach, generating data that will inform machine learning models to improve cancer patient risk stratification as well as to predict future targeted and/or immuno-therapy susceptibilities. This position will be predominantly lab-based with some ad hoc flexibility to work from home.
Responsibilities
- Establish organoid-on-a-chip platforms that incorporate multiple cell types (immune cells, fibroblasts, tumour cells, endothelial cells)
- Develop a microfluidic system for modelling immune cell action and drug penetration into 3D organoid models
- Develop protocols for whole-organoid imaging as well as single-cell analysis
- Data collection and reporting to the laboratory head
- Execute and deliver the project
Qualifications
- MSc in Cell Biology/Oncology/Bioengineering/Chemical Biology or related field; experience in 3D organ-on-a-chip systems and single-cell analysis on patient-derived organoids
- Experience in microfluidic and chip devices, including device fabrication
- Ability to communicate with team members from different backgrounds as well as senior members of GSK stakeholders/research partner units
- Ability to deliver high-quality, consistent results in a timely fashion with a positive, can-do, results-oriented attitude
- Preferred Qualifications & Skills: PhD in Cell Biology/Oncology or Bioengineering/Chemical Biology; laboratory automation experience; experience with cancer immunology; experience in wide-field imaging and/or confocal microscopy; additional experience in advanced light microscopy and quantitative imaging techniques
