Overview

Principal / Senior Electrical Engineer role at AFRY in the UK energy division, within the Thermal and Renewable Energy team.

Responsibilities

  • Providing engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of project challenges.
  • Providing design support and conducting technical reviews and comments on designs.
  • Producing conceptual, preliminary and detailed design deliverables, including drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
  • Preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and sketches.
  • Attending factory and site acceptance tests and monitoring/inspecting site construction activities.
  • Continuously improving engineering knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Maintaining accurate records and files.
  • Identifying potential health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial risks and contributing to mitigation.
  • Supporting the company’s goals and representing AFRY positively and professionally.
  • Participating in business development activities, including developing contacts, presenting AFRY’s capability, preparing proposals and managing bids.
  • Supporting the development of younger engineers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in electrical engineering.
  • Chartered status (Principal Engineer) or working towards Chartered status (Senior Engineer).
  • Significant knowledge and experience with LV to HV industrial electrical infrastructure (preferably on power generation and energy projects).
  • Good knowledge of electrical British and international standards and regulations.
  • Ability to structure unclear client problems into actionable tasks and projects; proactive decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills, fluently both written and spoken in business English; ability to present to top management.
  • Comfort with a non-hierarchical environment that encourages constructive conflict to improve client solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and travel as part of duties.

Additional candidate requirements

  • Experience of one or more of the following is advantageous but not essential: recognised project management training; consulting in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment; commercial awareness and contract knowledge (e.g. IChemE or FIDIC); design experience from concept to detailed engineering; construction, commissioning and testing experience; protection circuits, HV grid connections, HV substations; Grid Code/G99 experience; modelling software (e.g. ETAP, PowerFactory).
