About the Role
An exciting technical role in the Traction Power & EMC team working on power modelling, HV substation design, and EMC assurance on rail projects of varying sizes. You will be organized, self-starting, and possess strong communication and technical foundations. A curious mind and appetite for learning are essential.
Travel to other locations in the UK or overseas may be required depending on project needs.
Responsibilities
Formulate scope of work, methodology, and budget to support bids
Undertake site surveys, asset records correlation, and on-site verification
Prepare and/or review technical reports, feasibility studies, and option reports
Undertake and/or supervise power system modelling (ETAP, TRAIN, and Mott MacDonald’s multi-train simulator)
Prepare and/or review designs for AC/DC electrification schemes including distribution and electrical track equipment
Conduct earthing & bonding and protection studies
Provide input to other disciplines (civils, SCADA LV Power, signalling, systems assurance)
Site visits, inspections, and on-site design verification
Client interface (presentations, meetings, etc.)
Carry out bespoke technical investigations and on-site measurements
Mentor junior staff
Candidate Specification
Essential
Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
Chartered status
Experience in electric track equipment design
Experience in substation design (AC and DC)
Experience in development of electrical protection
Experience with HV and LV cable routes
Experience in traction load flow modelling software and power system studies; EMC assurance for rail systems is desirable
Desirable
Design independent assessment experience
Understanding of environmental issues in rail engineering
Knowledge of Network Rail and Transport for London projects
IT: ETAP, TRAIN, BIM/CAD packages (AutoCAD, Bentley AECOsim, MicroStation)
