Overview

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Technical Manager or Principal Transport Planner to take a leading role in transport strategy, business case development and wider innovation. Following recent project wins in the north of England we are expanding our Transport Planning team to help local government clients shape plans and secure funding for transport investment. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of three days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a wide variety of projects within our Transport Planning team, from bidding through to client management and project delivery.
  • Lead and support growth in three core areas: business case advisory, transport strategy & policy, and securing new work.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams across the UK and Europe in the Transportation and Infrastructure Division.
  • Demonstrate professional experience in the transport sector and in developing business cases, policy and strategy projects for local government clients.
  • Lead bids for local government projects and/or frameworks where applicable.
  • Engage with local government pressures and priorities and develop innovative transport schemes.
  • Communicate clearly in written reports and collaborate to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients.

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate experience in the transport sector – essential.
  • A Master’s degree in Transport Planning or a related subject – desirable but not essential.
  • Experience leading business case, policy and strategy projects for local government – essential.
  • Experience leading bids for local government projects and/or frameworks – desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of local government pressures and priorities – essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to develop quick, innovative, practical solutions – essential.
  • Excellent written communication and report writing experience – essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to form positive working relationships with colleagues and clients – essential.

Nice to have

  • Experience of working on transportation projects with local authorities.
  • Aspiring to help lead and grow Sweco’s capability in transport strategy and business case development.
