A little more about your role…
We are seeking to recruit an Associate/Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning team in Exeter. The typical day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
- Managing a broad range of transport planning projects, with responsibility for project team management and collaboration, budgeting, programming and technical excellence.
- Making an active contribution to four key pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting our Pillar Leads in these roles.
- Identifying and grasping further opportunities with existing clients.
- Supporting Project Managers and Directors in the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes.
- Attending and presenting at internal and external technical knowledge sharing events.
- Supervising Graduates and Transport Planners in undertaking technical tasks and coaching them in acquiring new skills.
- Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields.
- Working as part of a team, supporting the growth of our Mobility team in Exeter.
- Being present in the office (hybrid working) alongside colleagues to help develop and coach junior members of staff.
Your Team
Our Exeter Mobility team includes transport planning, modelling and engineering professionals who work on an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of public and private sector clients. The technical work includes transport strategies, sustainable transport projects (including EV), active travel solutions, development planning and much more. These projects are generally located within the region (Cornwall, Devon, Torbay and Somerset), and managed by our Exeter Mobility team, but we also support other schemes across the UK whilst working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures and environmental teams.
The successful applicant will help us to deliver a challenging and exciting forward workload for a range of regional clients including Local Authorities but also private developers.
You will be supported by senior members of the Mobility team and by our virtual UK wide specialist teams, including industry leading experts. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: active travel, public transport, scheme development, business case development, transport studies, strategies and appraisals.
- Experience in contributing to and preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans, preparing EIA Transport Chapters, and providing design advice to developers and architects would be desirable but not essential.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools, excel spreadsheets, transport data analysis and presentation and transportation software.
- Ability to produce technical project and non-technical public reports and presentations for a range of clients and stakeholders to a high technical standard.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and can communicate confidently with clients, stakeholders, team members and present at meetings, workshops and public forums.
- Project management experience, with the ability to lead project delivery including supervising workloads, task delegation, supporting junior staff and managing client expectations.
- Ability to prepare bids for technical work including preparing proposed methodology and fee proposals.
- Have a sound commercial awareness including effective financial management.
- If not already achieved, the candidate will be expected to work towards professional accreditation.
