Overview

Band 8B, 0.8 FTE (30 hours). Base: Wayside House, Coventry. The role requires travel across Coventry and Warwickshire; remote and agile working are also part of the duties.

We are the Children’s Intensive Support Team and are seeking a committed and passionate Principal Clinical Psychologist who can make a difference in outcomes for our young people. The post holder will join the Children’s IST Leadership Team and, with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, supervise and govern the team. The role includes supporting psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training. There are opportunities to utilise research, audit and service development skills. Ability to respond quickly and confidently in crisis situations is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to the service in the form of specialist assessments and psychological interventions, team formulation, consultation, training, service evaluation and supervision of other qualified staff.
  • Work directly with service users and their families/carers; experience with young people who are autistic or have a learning disability and mental health needs is essential.
  • Work within a framework that understands complex needs (e.g., enduring challenging behaviour, self-injury, aggression/violence, risk presentations) and use neuroaffirmative approaches (e.g., team formulations, strengths and challenges) to inform practice.
  • Engage in MDTs, CETRs, and EMDTs and collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency partners across Social Care, Education, and commissioners.
  • Contribute to service development, research, audit, and evaluation; provide supervision to psychology staff or team members where appropriate.
  • Travel across the Trust to deliver community-based practice; ensure appropriate transport arrangements are in place.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK) as approved by the HPC, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Knowledge of highly specialized psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
  • Well-developed communication skills to convey highly technical, clinically sensitive information to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues within and outside the NHS.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide consultation within the MDT and externally; joint work with other agencies; participate in service development, research and business meetings; provide supervision (where appropriate) to psychology staff or team members providing psychologically informed interventions.
  • Contribute to an expanding and evolving team and support work with people with Learning Disability/Autism and mental health needs.
  • Interviews for the Band 8b level; Band 8A role and job description may be considered for suitable candidates as part of the interview process.
  • The role is community-based and requires travel across the Trust; car owner/driver or suitable transport arrangements are essential. DBS check is required.
