Overview

Procurement Category Manager role at NWSSP Legal & Risk Services. This position supports the Clinical Sourcing team (Pathology & POCT Categories) within NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership. Hybrid working is available; base location is ideally St Asaph, North Wales, with office-based presence 2/3 days per week and potential discussions with the successful candidate.

Main duties

  • Support the teams' understanding of the strategic direction of all NHS Wales organisations and alignment with the NWSSP strategic objectives as part of the Integrated Medium-Term Plan (IMTP).
  • Support the leadership of the Assistant Head of National Sourcing in delivering a National Sourcing category strategy for Clinical products.
  • Develop and maintain a sourcing plan focused on delivering prioritised customer needs and cash-releasing savings from non-pay budgets.
  • Apply commercial acumen and negotiate effectively in a complex, changing NHS Wales environment.
  • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives, challenge historical practice when appropriate, and promote best practice to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Clinical National Sourcing Team.
  • Ensure operational management and performance monitoring of the procurement team in line with departmental KPIs and support the Assistant Head in responding to FOI and Audit queries.
  • Welsh language skill is desirable; applications from English and Welsh speakers are both welcome.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Qualified to CIPS Level 5 (Advanced Diploma) or equivalent CIPS Knowledge / Experience

Desirable criteria

  • ILM Level 4

  • Proven experience of delivering complex procurement projects
  • Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience of dealing with contract legislation, compliance and probity issues
  • Delivering savings
  • Experience of people/staff supervision
  • Experience of managing risk
  • Experience of category management
  • Experience of engaging with and managing a wide range of stakeholders in a professional manner

Desirable criteria

  • Awareness of quality standards and ISO policies and procedures
  • Experience of business planning
