Overview
Product Manager (Banking and Global Payments) – Altery, Greater London, United Kingdom.
About Us: Are you passionate about FinTech and ready to make a tangible impact in a dynamic company where your decisions shape the future? Altery could be the next chapter in your professional journey. We’re hiring a Payments Product Owner to own the strategy and delivery of Altery’s core and global payments capabilities across Retail and Business. You’ll lead integrations with local and cross-border schemes, design and tune pricing levers, optimize unit economics with partners, and drive a data-led roadmap from Product Requirements Document to launch to scaled SLAs—working closely with Engineering, Operations, Treasury, Banking Infrastructure, Compliance, Finance, and Marketing.
What you’ll be doing:
- Own the end-to-end payments roadmap (Core Banking & Global Payments) for Altery Retail and Business—strategy, prioritization, PRDs, delivery, and outcomes.
- Multi-currency accounts & IBANs: deliver 15+ currencies with maximum dedicated/named IBAN coverage in EEA; design vIBAN orchestration, reconciliation, and ledger impacts.
- SEPA Direct Participation: lead business case and readiness (scheme compliance, liquidity/settlement), and land SCT/SCT Inst/SDD operating model.
- Alternative Payment Methods (APMs): evaluate, integrate, and scale top APMs for priority corridors; dual-source where sensible; optimize conversion and blended cost-per-payment.
- Local rails strategy & rollout: evaluate and prioritize country schemes (e.g., Bizum ES, Blik PL, FAST/EFT TR), validate hypotheses via lean pilots, then ship production integrations—navigating regulatory, technical, and operational constraints to deliver instant, reliable payments.
- Altery Friends (P2P): launch peer-to-peer pay-in-DM (add friend → pay) with robust dispute flows and delightful UX.
- SWIFT excellence: improve STP and transparency (ISO 20022/MT statuses), reduce repairs and delivery times, and build robust incident/post-mortem loops with Operations.
- Pricing & monetization architecture: own the rate card and pricing logic per corridor/product; define and tune levers. Implement routing & A/B tests, regulatory transparency, and margin guardrails.
- Revenue management & forecasting: model elasticity; approve price tests; monitor take rate and gross margin per txn; maintain margin floors and parity bands vs competitors; align with Finance on P&L and with Treasury on hedging/FX buffers.
- Treasury & liquidity / settlement operations: define cut-offs, pre-funding and nostro usage, settlement calendars, FX liquidity sourcing, and intraday monitoring to meet scheme SLAs and minimize cost of funds.
- Analytics & insight: build Metabase/SQL dashboards; define KPIs and counter-metrics; drive decisions from data and qualitative research.
What You’ll Bring To Us
- 7+ years building payments/banking products in regulated environments; hands-on with integrations and scaling operations.
- Expertise across SEPA (SCT/INST/SDD), SWIFT, local instant schemes, settlement/clearing, reconciliation, and payment investigations.
- Proven track record shipping payment integrations end-to-end and improving success rates, speed, and unit economics.
- Commercial & pricing experience: designed/operated pricing levers (fees, spreads, min/cap, speed tiers, allowances) and improved margin without harming growth.
- Data-driven (Metabase/SQL); structured problem-solving with crisp product writing and stakeholder comms.
- Cross-functional delivery with Engineering, Operations, Treasury, Compliance, Finance; excellent execution and prioritization.
- Strong product sense and UX craft for high-trust financial flows.
- Experience preparing or operating under direct scheme participation (e.g., SEPA), including liquidity, settlement, and SLA models.
- Familiarity with APMs and local schemes (e.g., Bizum, Blik, PIX, UPI, iDEAL) and the aggregator/vendor landscape.
- Exposure to owning pricing, FX/fees strategy, and unit-economics models with Finance & Treasury (hedging buffers, weekend spread policies).
- Worked on both Retail & Business payment journeys (onboarding, limits, entitlements, approvals).
