Product Owner

As a Product Owner you will be responsible for prioritising the system change initiatives that uplift our customer’s experience and meet our business objectives. We’re looking for a candidate who is proactive, highly motivated, self-managing and can navigate ambiguity. Working alongside other change colleagues, the successful candidate will be involved in:
- Management, including prioritisation, of the product backlog
- Building relationships and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure you understand the business and can articulate the product vision
- Communication to stakeholders at all levels to ensure the direction of travel is clear
- Validation of business-driven demand requests making data driven strategically aligned decisions to ensure we deliver holistic value for our customer owned business
- Creation and monitoring of key performance indicators to measure the products success and options for continuous improvement initiatives
- Working with our business change colleagues to ensure the product can be adopted into service
- Working closely with the Business Analysis, Project Management and Engineering teams to ensure clarity of product backlog items and sizing estimates to enable creation of meaningful plans
You will be accountable for creation of a prioritised business value driven product roadmap. This roadmap will be value driven and aligned to our delivery capacity, calling out where we could drive more value from capacity changes. Your decisions will be fact based and communicable to stakeholders, taking an organisation view for locally driven demand requests. You will work closely with the wider team to obtain the information required for you to make informed decisions.
Using your broad knowledge of technology, business process, operational models, governance, risk management and change delivery methods you will work closely with other change professionals (including Architecture, Engineering and Business Change) to deliver end to end solutions that efficiently deliver business outcomes. You will be required to interact with and influence a diverse range of colleagues from across the business and have an adaptable style of communication to these stakeholders understand the product roadmap.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Northampton or London office. What you’ll be doing
- From working with our business stakeholders to shape our transformation roadmaps, to managing requests for new demand, to working with our Business Analysts, Engineers and Architects to shape solutions to meet desired outcomes, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining the roadmap of change for key components of the Colleague Servicing value stream technology stack.
- To do this, you’ll work closely with the value stream Lead Product Owner to understand the strategic priorities of Colleague Servicing and how these support the achievement of Society’s blueprint. You’ll be proactive working with your stakeholders to understand their priorities and how we can maximise the value that we deliver to our customers, colleagues and the Society.
- You’ll also be a key point of contact for stakeholders regarding key deliveries and the management of our technology services, keeping them updated on issues and progress, and working with delivery colleagues to help resolve issues when they arise.
- We’ll need you to develop a good understanding of the applications and systems that we maintain (as well as the key processes, journeys and products that they support), so you are able to develop a backlog of improvements and enhancements.
- You’ll also be proactive in working with other Product Owners from around the business, business stakeholders, Architects and Engineers to shape our roadmap for the medium and long term.
- As a member of a wider community of Product Owners, you’ll also have the opportunity to share and inform best practice across the organisation, as well as continuously enhancing your own skills and capabilities through the support available to take ownership for your own development.
About you
- A strategic thinker enabling you to build a roadmap of change that aligns with holistic business goals and customer needs, as well as challenging stakeholders to think beyond the short-term and/or tactical.
- A proven track record of collaborating, communicating, building relationships with and successfully influencing business and technical stakeholders at all levels to share theproduct vision and roadmap and provide updates on progress. You should also feel comfortable having conversations with design and technical colleagues about the more detailed aspects of proposed solutions to ensure successful delivery of required outcomes.
- Responsible for maximising value delivered to the colleagues and customers through the SAMM product. This involves understanding customer needs, prioritizing features, managing the product backlog, collaborating with stakeholders and the development team, and continuously seeking feedback to improve the product and its value proposition.
- Decisive when assessing demand even when the decision may not be an easy or popular one and effectively manage the team’s backlog and work based on changing requirements.
- A strong customer focus with the ability to assess whether proposed solutions effectively meet customer and business need. This includes working closely with delivery teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality releases.
- Able to act as the primary point of contact for delivery teams and stakeholders regarding product-related issues, taking ownership for the resolution of problems.
- Commercially aware helping you toassess the strategic and financial benefits of demand, as well as developing business cases for product’s own backlog of change.
- Confident in managing and prioritising a diverse and fast-paced workload, using your judgement to identify what is most important, maintaining momentum of key.
