  1. Role 1 – Biostatistics & Data Science
    Degree requirements: Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other subjects with a substantial quantitative component
    Overview: Expose yourself to Biostatistics and Data Science within drug development, statistics in clinical trials, and related areas. The department collaborates with scientists and clinicians, providing statistical advice, experimental design support, and data analysis across multiple functions. The team also advances statistical innovation and Data Science capabilities within the SDS-IH hub.
  2. Role 2 – Clinical Programming and Business Excellence
    Degree requirements: BSc, preferably mathematics, statistics, computer science or related discipline
    Overview: Support clinical research teams by programming and validating data for trial analysis and reporting, ensuring data quality and regulatory compliance. Collaboration with Statistics, Data Management and Clinical teams is expected.

Key Learnings & Responsibilities

Typical learnings include:

  • Collaborate with statisticians and programmers to develop datasets, tables, listings and figures for clinical trial reporting
  • Program using SAS and/or R, adhering to data standards and regulatory requirements
  • Perform quality control checks on clinical trial data and outputs
  • Prepare standard documentation, including dataset specifications and reviewer guides
  • Contribute to other department initiatives and development

Responsibilities (common to roles):

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams, communicate findings, and manage time effectively
  • Learn and apply statistical methodologies relevant to drug development
  • Develop programming skills in R, Python, SAS or similar tools

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Enrolled in a UK or ROI university for the duration of the placement; completed minimum 2 years of undergraduate study but not yet graduated at start
  • Current degree in a quantitative field; language: English (written and spoken)
  • Available for the 12-month placement starting September 2026
