Overview
Project Engineer - E&P role at Network Rail. This position involves managing the engineering aspects of E&P works across a portfolio of renewal projects, ensuring design, construction and commissioning activities comply with Network Rail standards and statutory obligations. The role may include duties as the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for E&P disciplines where required.
Responsibilities
- Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate.
- Engineer projects to Network Rail standards and specifications, across allocated design and construction contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant Railway Group and Network Rail standards, formal specifications and procedures.
- Manage all engineering activities to deliver schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
- Apply and manage quantified and qualitative risk assessment techniques and HAZOP analyses; manage environmental aspects of allocated projects in line with Network Rail’s environmental policy.
- Monitor design and performance of specialist consultants and contractors.
- Provide project management advice on construction activities, including testing, commissioning and site supervision; ensure design/construction elements meet current legislation including CDM regulations.
- Ensure internal and contractor design/construction/specialist personnel are competent.
- Undertake design/construction activity reviews and arrange contractor audits to monitor safety, environment, and quality of design, construction, testing, commissioning and management systems.
- Fulfil duties of the designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
- Identify and share best practice across project teams.
Qualifications
Essential- Experience in electrification & plant engineering within the rail sector; involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas preferred.
- Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and independent assessment of work.
- Understanding of CDM, risk assessment and engineering management competency.
- Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or degree-level education.
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases for projects; environmental awareness in engineering; Six Sigma Yellow Belt; project safety management experience; Yellow Book course; strong knowledge of 3rd rail design, construction and assurance.

Salary: Band 4C ( £43,588 - £51,719) plus a Location Allowance of £3,270. The salary package also includes:
