Project Management Officer

Overview
We’re recruiting for a highly capable PMO Manager to support the delivery of a strategic cybersecurity portfolio for our client. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role—not a line management position—where you'll work closely with another PMO professional and the Programme Manager to drive portfolio success.
The environment is dynamic and evolving, with limited structure currently in place. As the organisation begins rolling out major cybersecurity programmes, your expertise will be key in establishing effective governance, ensuring financial accuracy, and producing high-quality reporting and board materials.
This role demands a pragmatic and flexible approach, helping bring clarity and consistency to a complex landscape. If you're passionate about enabling programme success through strong PMO practices, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Partner with Finance to ensure accurate budget forecasting, tracking, and receipting.
- Own and improve the governance model, ensuring portfolio consistency and effective ways of working.
- Support preparation and facilitation of monthly portfolio review boards and regular steering groups with the executive team.
- Work with the Programme Manager to maintain the programme plan, ensuring milestones, dependencies, and progress are visible.
- Maintain and proactively manage the risk, issue, action and decision (RAID) log.
- Produce executive-ready decks and reports that are clear, visually strong, and outcome-focused.
- Collaborate with delivery leads and project managers in a supportive and complementary way, avoiding unnecessary overhead.
- Act as a coordination point across the portfolio, ensuring clarity and alignment.
- Identify and implement improvements in reporting, tooling, and governance, flexing between Agile and Waterfall where required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a PMO Manager or Senior PMO Analyst role within large-scale IT or cybersecurity programmes.
- Strong understanding of governance, portfolio management, and programme controls.
- Confident working with finance teams on forecasting, accruals, and spend tracking.
- Excellent presentation skills, able to create clear, concise, and impactful decks for senior stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across delivery teams.
- Experience maintaining programme plans, RAID logs, and portfolio reporting.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.
- Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting cybersecurity programmes or work in highly regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with both Agile and Waterfall delivery models.
- Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, JIRA, and MS Project.
- Experience coordinating or facilitating executive-level boards and steering groups.
Candidate Profile
- We are looking for a hands-on, pragmatic PMO professional who can balance structure with flexibility. You will:
- Thrive in a collaborative environment, complementing project managers and delivery leads.
- Be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to support delivery, while also operating confidently with executives.
- Take pride in producing well-structured meetings and high-quality board material that drive effective decision-making.
- Bring a friendly, approachable style, with a focus on adding value rather than adding process.
- Be comfortable working in an ambiguous and evolving environment, creating clarity and structure where little currently exists.
