Overview
The tropical peatlands and their flora have been a focus of Kew researchers for over ten years, with a well-established professional network in the Amazon basin and, more recently, in the Congo basin, delivering peat distribution maps, ecology, management, and climate mitigation. This role is part of our new Global Centre for Biodiversity and Climate (GCBC) project “Using biodiversity to support climate resilient livelihoods in intact tropical peatlands.”
Position details
- Hours: 50% part time
- Contract Type: Fixed Term (FTA)
- Contract start date: Provisionally 1 October 2025
- Contract end date: 31 October 2027
- Salary: £39,243 – £42,154 per annum (pro rata), depending on skills and experience [Band D]

Role summary
We are seeking a part-time project manager with experience of working on UK government initiative funded projects to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in financial management and reporting and in delivering projects in developing countries. If you have project management experience gained in a research setting, the ability to work independently, and enjoy collaborating with global research partners, this is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
- Provide project management for the GCBC project “Using biodiversity to support climate resilient livelihoods in intact tropical peatlands.”
- Oversee financial management and reporting for UK government initiative funded activities.
- Coordinate with research partners in global locations and liaise with internal stakeholders.
- Support delivery of project milestones in developing countries, ensuring compliance and quality standards.
- Monitor progress, risks, and issues; contribute to project planning and documentation.
Qualifications and experience
- Experience in project management within a research or academic setting.
- Proven ability to manage finances and report on project progress.
- Experience on UK government initiative funded projects is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with global partners.
