Overview

Join our Water team as a Project Manager / Project Director, based in the UK offices (Basingstoke, Croydon, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, St Albans, Exeter, Bristol, or Cardiff). This role supports a flexible hybrid working model and involves delivering water utility projects (wastewater and potable water) within long-term client frameworks for major UK water companies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects with full accountability for delivery, including budget and schedule.
  • Oversee project contracts to ensure delivery within scope, budget, and timeframes.
  • Manage change by documenting early warnings, preparing variations, and negotiating changes with clients.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, identify risks, dependencies, and required resources.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks and opportunities to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Manage contracts under forms such as NEC and ensure quality management across activities and outputs.
  • Engage with stakeholders to manage interests and influence to achieve project goals.
  • Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams across the business and manage subcontractor and supply chain performance.
  • Build strong client and cross-functional team relationships and lead bid management for design tenders on standalone projects and framework contracts.

Project Director Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work of one or more Project Managers and provide support for their tasks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project delivery procedures.
  • Drive consistent Project Manager practices in alignment with AECOM requirements and the Project Delivery System (PDS).
  • Depending on regional/project needs, you may also manage more complex projects in addition to the above.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering water and wastewater/treatment projects.
  • Strong commercial, risk management, and contractual skills (e.g., NEC4).
  • A degree or equivalent in a related engineering subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards) or APM registration.
