Base pay range
£56,509 - £62,159 the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.
We will give full consideration to requests for flexible and part time working, such as reduced hours, compressed hours or job sharing. We also offer hybrid working and recognise the many benefits this brings. The nature of the role will determine if flexible and hybrid working options are possible.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Project Manager to join our Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme Team (AIMP). BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

You’ll be joining our Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme team who are responsible for a suite of projects focussed on maintaining our air capability, upgrading and improving our infrastructure and decarbonising our Antarctic estate.
You’ll help us to deliver the first major step in our journey to decarbonise Rothera Research Station by delivering a project to install solar panels, battery storage and a smart grid.
Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop both your people, project and contract management skills. We will support your professional development through internal and external training courses as well as providing mentoring opportunities.
Current projects the team are working on include the Rothera Modernisation Project, which involved the construction of a new science and operations facility to modernise our main research station in Antarctica as well as upgrading our site wide services. The aim of this project is to replace our aging infrastructure as well as ensuring our facilities are fit for the future of world class scientific research in the polar regions.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:
• Responsible for the successful delivery of the Rothera Renewable Energy Project
• Responsible for the contract administration of the NEC4 contracts with our Technical Advisor and Construction Partner.
• Managing inputs from other team members, departments and the wider organisation as required for the project.
• Engaging with and disseminating information to key stakeholders both internal and external to BAS.

For the role of Project Manager, we are looking for somebody who has:
• You will need to pass a medical to demonstrate that you are medically fit to work in Antarctic conditions.
• Construction, engineering or environmental related degree (2:2 or above) or equivalent.
• APM PMQ or PRINCE2 qualified and applied experience.
• Recent multi-year experience of delivering construction or infrastructure projects using NEC4 contracts.
• Recent experience in the renewable energy sector.
• Experience of delivering projects in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.
• Be able to deploy to the Antarctic for 6-12 weeks (potentially at short notice).
