Project Planner - Energy Sector

A Senior Planner will be responsible for work packages and projects of varying size and complexity. Due to the nature of the programme of works, work packages may vary in size with Senior Planners accountable for scheduling multiple smaller projects or one which could be significantly larger in value.
A Senior Planner will be responsible for taking the lead on planning for multiple non-related projects or single highly complex projects within the programme of works. They will understand and manage relationships between time, cost, risk, change, reporting, and scope, with accountability for creating and maintaining robust schedules that provide our clients with accurate data to drive management decisions. They will play a key role in ensuring that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time and cost targets and the appropriate quality standards.
As a Senior Planner, your responsibilities may include:
- Leading planning efforts and supporting junior planning professionals on high-value projects or programmes.
- Creating, developing, and maintaining project schedules aligned with project requirements on complex, risk-managed projects or programmes.
- Adhering to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for schedule data management and submissions.
- Assisting the project team in developing status reports to inform management of project progress.
- Overseeing day-to-day management, staffing, and implementation of Integrated Project Controls standards and processes.
- Reducing uncertainty, improving efficiency, and clarifying project objectives.
- Interacting with the project team to define scope, develop, and update detailed schedules, and identify variances from the original schedule.
- Supporting project managers in scheduling work and coordinating assignments.
- Evaluating schedule progress and performance, and identifying potential problems.
- Analyzing float, critical path, and constraints to assess the impact of changes or slippages, and recommending recovery actions.
- Conducting project progress reviews.
- Monitoring and consolidating multiple project schedules into an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Monitoring project reporting systems and summarizing progress across projects.
- Advising on project KPIs across multiple projects.
- Reporting on Earned Value Management (EVM) periodically.
- Managing planning personnel within the team, including mentoring and coaching.
You should have senior professional Project Controls experience, specializing in Planning & Scheduling, across various sectors and project lifecycle stages. Nuclear sector experience is desirable but not mandatory. Proficiency with Primavera (P6) and other planning/resourcing software is essential, along with the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
You must be a strong communicator, demonstrate leadership, influence, motivate, coach, and foster a diverse and inclusive environment. You should be committed to community building and support networks beyond your delivery role. Additional requirements include:
- Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as APM or PMI.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to make risk-based decisions in uncertain parameters.
- Strong leadership skills to mobilize and inspire teams.
- Experience in stakeholder management and conflict resolution.
- A desire to work within the nuclear sector.
