Overview
We are looking for a Project Support Officer to support the delivery of projects including flood risk management studies and schemes that reduce the risk of flooding to communities and enhance the environment. You will support Project Managers and project teams to deliver their projects, and provide administrative and logistical support to the wider team. You will be involved in activities such as handling and processing data, tracking finances, setting up new project workspaces, organising meetings, and taking minutes, preparing notice of entry letters and public newsletters, ordering site signage, running reports, and accompanying Project Managers on site visits. You will develop your interpersonal skills, learn about applying legislation, policy and guidance, and communicate with wide and diverse groups. The role provides a professional project management service and opportunities to grow your career. Training and incident response duties are part of the role when required.
The team
We are Project and Programme Delivery (PPD), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. Our teams provide the Environment Agency with a professional project and programme management service to deliver flood risk management, environmental improvements, and shared ownership with local communities. Although dispersed across offices, we maintain collaborative spaces to share learning and develop our people.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers and project teams to deliver projects.
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the wider team.
- Handle and process data, track finances, and set up new project workspaces.
- Organise meetings, take minutes, and prepare notices of entry letters and public newsletters.
- Order site signage, run reports, and accompany Project Managers on site visits.
- Develop interpersonal skills, build professional relationships, and learn to apply legislation, policy and guidance.
- Engage with a wide range of audiences and communicate effectively to diverse groups.
- Participate in incident response duties when needed and undertake required training.
Experience/Skills Required
- Essential
- Experience in using MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines with appropriate support.
- Experience in accurate data management, report writing, and presenting information to stakeholders.
- Efficient and adaptable communication skills for a variety of audiences.
- Organisational and planning skills.
- Desirable
- Academic qualification (e.g., A-Levels). Subjects such as maths/statistics, geography, English, environmental studies, business studies, economics, or computer science may be advantageous.
- Experience in formal project environments and working with information sharing platforms (SharePoint).
- Experience in customer-facing roles and strong communication skills.
- Willingness to explore transferable skills if unsure about the role.

- Flexible working patterns and enhanced training opportunities are available, including personal and professional development.
- The role will be fulfilled from Bristol or Exeter offices with regular travel to project sites and meetings; occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
