Job Description

The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We prioritize diversity, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, communities, and the environment.

It’s an exciting time to be involved in planning England’s water resources. Our water supply faces increasing pressure due to drought and dry weather, with the driest start to the year since 1976. We have recently published our National Framework for Water Resources to ensure future water security. As a Project Support Officer, you will play a crucial role in its success.

First released in March 2020, the framework marked a significant shift in planning for resilient water resources amid climate change, droughts, and population growth, alongside environmental enhancements. The 2025 update builds on these achievements, emphasizing integrated, multi-sector planning at all levels.

Your responsibilities will include supporting activities to deliver and implement this framework, working closely with team members and external stakeholders to progress various water resource topics.

The Team

You will join the Water Resources Resilience team, which leads the National Framework and collaborates across water sectors to improve resilience.

We are part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate, which influences policy, legislation, and delivery of key environmental objectives through evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation. We aim to build trust and secure resources to enhance environmental outcomes.

Experience and Skills Required

As a dispersed team, you must be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with colleagues.

We offer development opportunities and appropriate training to support your growth.

Contact and Additional Information

This role is fixed-term until 31 March 2026. An inclusive incident management objective will be part of your development plan, with support to find suitable roles and training.

The location is flexible/hybrid, with an EA Office base. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.

Please read the Candidate / Additional Information Pack. For queries, contact WRNationalFramework@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Applications are assessed 'blind' based on competency questions. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date.
