Job Description

The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We actively seek diversity, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, communities, and the environment.

Context

It’s an exciting time to be involved in planning England’s water resources. Our water supply faces increasing pressures due to drought and dry weather, with the driest start to the year since 1976. We have recently published our National Framework for Water Resources to secure our future water supply. In this role, you will be crucial to the success of this framework.

The framework, first released in March 2020, pioneered planning for resilient water resources amidst climate change, droughts, and population growth, alongside environmental enhancement. The 2025 update expands on these achievements, emphasizing integrated, multi-sector planning at all levels.

The post holder will support activities related to delivering and implementing the National Framework for Water Resources, working closely with team members and external stakeholders to advance water resources initiatives.

The Team

You will join the Water Resources Resilience team, which leads the national framework and collaborates across sectors to improve water resilience.

We are part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate, which influences policy, legislation, and delivery to meet environmental objectives through evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation.

Experience and Skills Required

As a dispersed team, you must be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication.

We offer development opportunities and appropriate training.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2026. You will have an inclusive development plan with tailored training. The role is based at an EA Office with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.

Read the Candidate / Additional Information Pack. For queries, contact WRNationalFramework@environment-agency.gov.uk. Applications are assessed blindly based on competency questions. Interviews will be via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date.

Contract Duration: Until 31/03/2026

Competencies:
