About The Role

An established and forward-thinking local authority in the South East is seeking an experienced Property Solicitor to join its Legal Services team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive public-sector environment, advising on a broad range of property matters that directly impact the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, practical legal advice and representation to colleagues, Members, and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Council in legal proceedings, including undertaking advocacy where appropriate.
  • Manage a varied caseload, ensuring timely and efficient progression of matters.
  • Attend committees, statutory meetings, and public meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the Legal Services teams service plan and support delivery of wider corporate objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, case law, and best practice through CPD.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and legal practice.

Property-Focused Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted adviser on a full range of property matters including acquisitions, disposals, leases, licences, and landlord/tenant issues.
  • Negotiate, draft, and complete property transactions on behalf of the Council.
  • Provide advice on the structuring of property and development deals.
  • Assist with matters involving Assets of Community Value, best value considerations, and Subsidy Control.
  • Support strategic asset management and regeneration initiatives from a legal perspective.

About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.
  • Experience handling property matters within a legal team or practice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage your own caseload, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Confident analysing legislation, guidance, and legal developments.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and modern legal systems to support service delivery.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to continuous development.

Desirable

  • Experience within a local government legal team.
  • Knowledge of the local government statutory framework.
  • Experience advising on public law, constitutional matters, or relevant court procedures.
  • Experience working with elected Members or in a political environment.
  • Comfort presenting to committees or panels.
