Overview
Protection & Control Engineer (Energy) at WSP. You could be based in Newcastle, Stockton-on-Tees, Leeds or Manchester with the flexibility to travel to UK client offices and sites as required.
What you will do
- Produce a comprehensive suite of protection and control system design drawings for 11kV up to and including 132kV systems (AIS & GIS).
- Develop new protection solutions to meet the requirements of a future smart grid.
- Integrate protection and SCADA systems to deliver cost-effective design solutions.
- Create all associated engineering design calculations and documentation.
- Support the creation of all necessary equipment specifications.
- Visit sites to assess project requirements and attend site meetings, providing ongoing design drawing changes and support during project build.
- Review designs produced by suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance with current legislation and policies.
What we will be looking for
- HNC Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes
- Knowledge of electrical networks and engineering standards
- Ability to interpret technical documentation relating to design
- Knowledge and experience with main suppliers’ substation control equipment (e.g., ABB, Hitachi, Siemens, GE)
- Experience with main standard protocols such as IEC 61850 and IEC 60870
- Full driving licence
