Joining our friendly and supportive Public Health team, you can advance your career in Public Health whilst helping to address health inequalities in our communities. We enjoy the challenge of working together to develop Public Health initiatives and drive them through to completion.

This is a full-time, fixed term maternity cover post (up to 14 months), working in an important role that leads on co-ordination and delivery of the Nottinghamshire Health & Wellbeing Board and Oral Health policy area. You will work closely with other council departments and partners across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) to drive collective action on priorities within the Nottinghamshire Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy. This includes coordination of Nottinghamshire Health and Wellbeing Board meetings, workshops and work programme and you will be responsible for driving the refresh of the current Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which is due to be reviewed in 2026. The role will also include providing programme management for commissioned oral health improvement services and partnership work to improve oral health outcomes.

You will be qualified to degree level in Public Health or a related subject, or with equivalent demonstrable experience in Public Health and commissioning, who understands the role that social, economic, and environmental factors can play in health. With a passion for improving health, you’ll use your excellent communication and relationship building skills to promote commitment and action from others. You’ll have a flexible approach to be able to adapt to specific work areas. Relevant experience as a Public Health or other related professional is essential, along with experience of working in partnership with other organisations.

In return, we are committed to your personal development, and offer an excellent benefits package. Nottinghamshire County Council also has an NHS Pension Direction Order in place, which means that we are able to provide ongoing access to the NHS Pension Scheme (NHSPS) for eligible new joiners to Public Health roles who are already in the NHSPS. Those eligible will be registered on one or more of the GMC, GDC, UKPHR, HCPC or NMC registers or carrying out a public health role as defined by the Agenda for Change (AFC) role profiles.

The Council has adopted a hybrid working strategy, enabling staff to use a blended approach of home and office working that suit individuals’ circumstances and business need. The formal office base for these posts is County Hall, West Bridgford, which you will be expected to work from as and when required.

For an informal discussion about these posts, please contact Avril Sullivan, Business Support Administrator, in the first instance on avril.sullivan@nottscc.gov.uk.

This post is also available as a secondment opportunity to existing Nottinghamshire County Council employees. You must seek approval from your line manager before applying.

A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
