Regional Director, Asia Pacific and the Americas

Location: UK-based with the option for remote working. Occasional overseas travel to support programme implementation, team development, and to strengthen strategic relationships is required. Travel within the UK may also be necessary.
This is a UK-based role. Applicants should only apply if they are eligible to work in the UK.
Benefits include: yearly performance pay, 4 wellbeing days per calendar year, annual leave, and public holidays entitlement. The role is also eligible for the Civil Service pension scheme with an employer contribution of up to 28.97%.
Role overview with key responsibilities
WFD operates across the globe with programme portfolios in five regions: MENA, Africa, Europe/Central Asia, Asia Pacific, and the Americas.
The new Regional Director for Asia Pacific and the Americas will provide strategic and technical leadership for WFD’s largest and busiest region, overseeing multiple programmes, research initiatives, pilot projects, diverse donors, and a large regional team.
Based in the UK, the RD will set regional priorities, oversee programme implementation, reporting, and financial management. The role involves representing WFD at high-profile events, building relationships, and ensuring regional initiatives respond effectively to current and emerging dynamics. The RD will also contribute to executive-level decisions as part of WFD's leadership team.
About You - We are looking for the following
- Significant experience in a similar role, preferably with knowledge of the Asia Pacific region, including ASEAN institutions.
- Understanding of democratic governance and regional challenges.
- Experience leading large, diverse teams, including remote staff.
- Proven project and programme management skills, including resource and budget management.
- Networks with FCDO and other diplomatic actors and donors in the Asia Pacific regions.
- Experience in thematic areas relevant to WFD’s interests.
- Successful business development record.
- Experience managing substantial financial resources and budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage multiple work streams and coordinate across teams.
- Strong relationship management skills across diverse teams and regions.
