Role Overview

This role sits within the Regulatory Legal team, a team of two within the broader EMEA legal team covering all jurisdictions with the region, but principally the UK, France, Spain and Dubai. The EMEA legal team is a 12 strong team made up of both business dedicated and transversal lawyers covering businesses across their SME practice area in Corporate and Commercial, Data Protection, Regulatory and Employment.

You will be involved in advising on and providing strategic input on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious legal regulatory matters involving new business and cross border initiatives, strategic projects, regulatory change, regulatory investigations and litigation, policy development, interactions with regulators and external engagement

Role Responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice on all aspects of regulation applying to the Group’s business activities with the EMEA region.
  • Managing and providing strategic advice on contentious regulatory investigations and litigation, working with external counsel as required.
  • Advising on the regulatory aspects of strategic corporate development and change projects.
  • Horizon scanning and advising on upcoming regulatory change and reforms in relation to wholesale markets in the UK and EU, including but not limited to MiFID, MiFIR, REMIT II, SMCR, BMR, DORA, EMIR, MICAR.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Compliance function to monitor and report on regulatory developments relevant to the EMEA business.
  • Preparing internal reporting and MI and contributing towards external engagement and lobbying efforts.
  • Analysing new business initiatives from a regulatory legal perspective.
  • Engaging and managing (including costs) external counsel in conjunction with management and the TP ICAP legal team.

Experience / Competences

Essential

  • Post qualification experience gained in a large international law firm or in-house specialising in contentious and/or non-contentious regulatory advisory preferably in a financial services environment.
  • Proven experience advising on complex regulatory matters and managing regulatory investigations and litigation.
  • Ability to translate complex legal issues into business orientated and practical solutions.
  • Experience in contributing to managing legal aspects of cross-functional and large-scale projects.
  • Ability to work with senior stakeholders to influence, design and implement regulatory solutions and compliance in line with legal risk appetite.
  • Motivated self- starter, pro-active and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a small, dynamic legal team.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships and inspire confidence in business and functional stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to help find solutions to complex problems and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Wholesale markets experience particularly in relation to markets intermediaries and trading venues, both in the UK and EU.
  • Experience of advising on and managing the legal aspects of regulatory change projects.
  • University level degree.
  • Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales (or equivalent).
