An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Reserving Manager to join a highly respected and forward-thinking organisation based in the heart of London. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on providing expert actuarial guidance, enjoys working closely with underwriters, claims, and finance teams, and is passionate about driving technical excellence within the actuarial field.
Play a central role in delivering strategic reserving advice and supporting business units through expert actuarial input, ensuring that your insights directly contribute to organisational success and profitability.
What you'll do:
As a Reserving Manager, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic environment where your expertise will be instrumental in guiding both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Oversee the complete valuation process by defining project scope, managing performance against plans, and ensuring all deliverables meet high standards of quality control.
- Develop new monitoring tools and ad-hoc reports tailored to evolving business needs, enabling data-driven decision-making across multiple teams.
- Apply standard actuarial reserving models and pricing techniques with precision while adapting methodologies to maximise benefit for the organisation.
- Design complex actuarial models and modify existing techniques to address unique challenges within property and casualty lines.
- Maintain rigorous quality controls throughout all stages of the valuation process to guarantee accuracy and reliability of outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders including underwriters, claims professionals, and finance teams to facilitate effective communication and shared objectives.
- Provide clear technical advice and guidance to less experienced actuarial staff as well as clients, supporting their professional growth and understanding of actuarial concepts.
- Manage Actuarial Analysts by setting clear expectations, facilitating achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), and promoting a collaborative team environment.
- Ensure that all conclusions and recommendations are fully substantiated by robust analytical results, presenting findings in an accessible manner for non-technical audiences.
- Forecast resource needs accurately while managing budgeted resources responsibly to achieve fiscal targets without compromising on quality or delivery timelines.
What you bring:
To excel as a Reserving Manager, you will bring an impressive blend of technical expertise, industry insight, and interpersonal sensitivity. Your background in general insurance reserving-ideally gained within large-scale or multinational financial services settings-will provide the foundation needed to tackle intricate valuation challenges.
- Extensive experience in general insurance reserving within an actuarial function is essential for success in this role.
- A proven track record working within multinational financial services businesses is highly desirable as it demonstrates adaptability to complex environments.
- Solid background in property and casualty actuarial fields enables you to address industry-specific challenges effectively.
- Hands-on experience conducting actuarial analyses or predictive modelling equips you with the technical acumen required for advanced problem-solving.
- Demonstrated progression through increasing levels of responsibility highlights your readiness for managerial duties.
- A tertiary degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience ensures foundational knowledge is robust.
- Exceptional analytical thinking skills allow you to interpret complex data sets with clarity while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong conflict resolution abilities enable you to navigate challenging situations diplomatically within cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis software (such as SAS) supports your capacity for data-driven decision-making.
