Resident Engagement & Involvement Officer
- Location: Leathermarket JMB Office, 26 Leathermarket Street SE1 3HN, London
- Position Type: Permanent full-time
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on resident engagement for a resident-led organisation with the highest level of devolved management and financial responsibility in England. The role is central to delivering Leathermarket JMB’s Resident Engagement Strategy, with a focus on increasing participation, particularly from secure tenants whose voices are currently underrepresented. The postholder will ensure that residents have meaningful opportunities to influence decisions that affect their homes and communities.
This work is underpinned by national policy and legislation. The Housing White Paper (The Charter for Social Housing Residents) requires housing providers to give tenants a voice in shaping services and priorities. The Building Safety Act further mandates meaningful engagement with residents on safety-related matters.
Main accountabilities
- Lead the development and implementation of strategies to increase resident engagement, particularly among secure tenants whose voices are underrepresented.
- Support resident engagement on building safety and major works projects.
- Measure and report on the impact and diversity of resident engagement activities.
- Support the formation of new residents’ groups and strengthen existing ones.
- Assist resident representatives in accessing external funding opportunities.
- Organise social and community-building activities to foster resident involvement.
- Produce engaging publicity materials and manage communications, including social media.
- Act as budget holder for Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) funding.
- Coordinate the JMB’s strategy and communications for continuation ballots.
- Promote and increase membership of the JMB.
This role requires a high level of commitment and the ability to meet important deadlines. Some evening and occasional weekend work will be necessary, with time off in lieu. The JMB values work/life balance and supports flexible working arrangements.
As a local, community-rooted organisation, the JMB has a high level of interaction with residents. The successful candidate must be comfortable with frequent and meaningful engagement with a diverse resident population. This is a mixed estate/office-based role, and flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business.
