Location: London or Newton Aycliffe (Hybrid working)
Salary up to: £65,000k DOE
Your new role
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a unique opportunity for an experience Systems Engineer – Vehicle Operability to join our fantastic Engineering team. Based from either our London HQ or factory in Newton Aycliffe and working across multiple live projects, as a System Engineer – Vehicle Operability you will be expected to interface with the customer and other engineering functions alongside take ownership of different rolling stock systems from the early bid stage, through to final acceptance of Hitachi built UK Rolling Stock.
The successful candidate will also act as the interface between the UK, Italian and Japanese engineering teams for their given systems. Some travel in Europe and to Japan is expected.
Some core responsibilities will include:
Carry out relevant customer facing activities and capture train level requirements through DITLOTT etc.
To define and manage the Scope of Works for all areas within your work package.
Capture and propagate operational scenarios and driver activities into train level requirements where required using DOORS.
Produce design documentation and demonstrate compliance.
Manage the train system design through concept design, preliminary design, detailed design and final design stages engaging the supply chain and delivering output aligned with PE KPIs.
Be the SME for given system developing functional, performance and vehicle test specifications, as required.
Validation of the train design by ensuring that the QA and test and commissioning activities are aligned with the design concept.
Provide support to all other functions where required, E.g. Mechanical/Electrical integration, Update Electrical/Mechanical drawings, RAMS activities etc.
Initiate and implement design optimisations to improve safety, reliability and encourage the introduction of innovations into the Hitachi Rail product base.
Provide support for technical bid submissions.
Support planning activities.
About you
Previous experience in customer facing and systems engineering related work.
Knowledge of the UK/EU Railway Operations, Engineering and standards.
Experience of managing railway systems engineering requirements.
Experience in railway product engineering development and design.
Proven experience in systems engineering.
Knowledge of train configuration, mechanical drawings, control and electric circuits.
Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural, global team.
Experience with managing key stakeholders such as customers, suppliers etc.
Knowledge and understanding of the European and Railway Group Standards and other railway specific engineering standards
Electrical/Mechanical Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (desirable)
