Safety Engineer – SC3 Weapon System (TOF 2013 R11)
Location: Abbey Wood, Bristol (hybrid with regular attendance, plus occasional meetings at MBDA Filton, Bristol)
Rate: Up to £550/day (Inside IR35, via an umbrella company)
Contract Duration: ASAP – 31/03/2026 (initial 110 days)
Clearance: Active SC required with sole UK nationality

Role Summary
The SC3 team sits within the Tactical Strike Delivery Team (TSDT) under Lethality and Protect (L&P), responsible for delivery of the SC3 Weapon System Demonstration and Manufacturing programme.
The Safety Engineer will work alongside the existing SC3 Safety Manager, reporting to the TSDT Chief Engineer (Senior Safety Responsible, SSR) and the SC3 Lead Engineer.
Focus will be on developing the SC3 safety case in accordance with DSA.02 during Demonstration phase through to entry into service. The Safety Engineer will ensure artefacts demonstrate compliance with policy, legislation and defence regulations, and that assets are demonstrably safe.
Day-to-day responsibilities include contributing to the Safety Management Plan (SMP) and providing specialist safety advice, tasking, and reporting.
Key Tasks & Deliverables
- MBDA SC3 Safety Case Report Review – Review of draft MBDA Safety Case Report.
- DefStan 00-056 AMC Compliance Review – Acceptance of MBDA Final Safety Case Report.
- Maintenance of SC3 Safety artefacts – Monthly updates of Safety Summary, Forward Action Plan, Void Tracker.
- Tasking management and deliverables acceptance – WTS/WESCOE tasking, updating SC3 Operational Safety & Environmental Case Report (SECR), sign-off of SECR for storage/handling/transport.
- Hazardous materials register/dossiers – Review and update.
- Support to SC3 Operational OME Safety Review Panel (OSRP) – Respond to OSRP queries, support issuing of OAS.
- Annual SC3 Safety Management Plan (SMP) Review – Delivery of annual SMP uplift.
- SC3 TSDT Hazard Log development – Acceptance of MBDA Final Hazard Log Report and Hazard Leaflets.
- SC3 Handling, Transport & Disposal Hazard Log – Support Hazard Log maintenance.
- General Safety Support – Ongoing support to SC3 team, safety advice, attendance at meetings/working groups.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Active SC clearance with sole UK nationality.
- Familiar with DE&S safety management systems and processes (POSMS).
- Experienced in OME Safety.
- Skilled in producing/maintaining Safety & Environmental Management Plans.
- Experience of Safety Cases and Safety Case Reports.
- Strong knowledge of Hazard Logs and hazard identification/assessment.
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of DE&S environmental management systems and processes (POEMS).
- Experience with Air integrated OME.
- Experience with complex weapon systems.
