This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced and dynamic individual to work as a school admissions and appeals officer (primary and secondary) in Newham’s Education Access Group. The role encompasses a wide range of statutory and non-statutory duties, including presenting the authority's case at appeal hearings and working in close partnership with schools in relation to admissions and children missing education, to support families in accessing education for their children.

School Admissions and Access Senior Officer

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced and dynamic individual to work as a school admissions and appeals officer (primary and secondary) in Newham’s Education Access Group. The role encompasses a wide range of statutory and non-statutory duties, including presenting the authority's case at appeal hearings and working in close partnership with schools in relation to admissions and children missing education, to support families in accessing education for their children.
Applicants should should have expert knowledge of the the relevant legislation, be a strong and confident communicator, who can develop positive relationships with diverse and large stakeholder groups.
Key Responsibilities
The role has a wide and diverse range of responsibilities, with the key elements being:
- All elements of normal and in year admissions;
- Delivering our borough wide co-ordinated in year process;
- Support the delivery of school admissions appeals for maintained schools and academies;
- Professionally represent the local authority and the Education Access Group at school admission appeal hearings;
- Support the development and maintenance of our workflow and training documents directory;
- Tracking the admission of children from point of offer to admission;
- Providing advice to schools in relation to children missing education;
- Delivering clear and robust communications for key stakeholders;
- Building strong relationships with schools, senior officers within CYPS and key partners;

About Us
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
