Security Officer - London Thamesport

This is a flexible position where you will be trained and required to work at various locations. It is listed as a part-time role but may be full-time when covering holidays and sickness.

A full UK driving license is required due to patrolling around the Port in a company vehicle.

Shifts are available between:

• 04:00-16:00
• 16:00-04:00
• 04:00-13:00
• 13:00-21:00

Salary: £12.80 per hour.

Job Objectives & Responsibilities

• Providing Maritime Security under International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS)
• Conducting searches of vehicles entering the Restricted Area under ISPS
• Providing a customer-friendly, reassuring, professional security presence
• Communicating with the Port Police to report suspicious activity, packages, or discrepancies with ID or searches
• Monitoring and controlling access to the Restricted Area via Access Control Points
• Checking and controlling the egress of HGVs leaving the Port

Main Duties

• Ensuring access control to the Port with vehicle access barriers at Access Points
• Monitoring safe walkways for pedestrian access at gatehouses
• Verifying driver and vehicle documentation and identification
• Ensuring compliance with DfT regulations regarding vehicle and personal searches
• Controlling egress of containers/trailers at Gates 1 & 2 and ensuring accuracy of ANPR
• Providing a visual deterrent
• Liaising with Port and statutory authorities (police and Border Force) as required

Candidate Requirements

• SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor licence
• Proven experience as a Security Officer or similar role
• Experience delivering excellent customer service
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Computer literacy and ability to write clear daily reports
• Knowledge of public safety and security procedures
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act
