Self-Employed Counsellor (Specialising in Neurodivergent Young People and Gaming)

MindJam Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom

At MindJam, our primary focus is on supporting young people’s emotional well-being. We engage them in a world in which they feel safe and comfortable, namely video games. We support young people between the ages of 6 – 25. Our mentors and Counsellors are experienced in supporting neurodivergent individuals, including autistic young people and those with additional needs such as PDA, ADHD, anxiety, stress, and trauma. We work together with families, support networks, schools, councils, and mental health professionals to provide the right support to each individual. Our approach harnesses the benefits of digital entertainment and creative platforms to support young people with aspects of life they find difficult, in an environment they feel comfortable.

About the Role

MindJam is looking for a passionate and experienced Self-Employed Counsellor to join our team. This is a brilliant opportunity to supplement your existing private practice, focusing on delivering our traditional counselling sessions as well as our innovative BlockJam counselling sessions using the medium of Minecraft.

We require a highly skilled counsellor with a robust background in working therapeutically with neurodivergent young people. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to a neurodivergent affirming and client-centred approach. Sessions will be held remotely online.

Crucially, you must have a genuine interest in and experience with gaming, especially Minecraft, as this will be the core therapeutic tool.

MindJam will fully fund you to complete Ellie Finch's "Counselling Using Minecraft" training. After training, you will work alongside our current counsellor, delivering our highly-regarded BlockJam sessions.

Key Requirements

  • Professional Qualification: Recognised qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy
  • Professional Membership: Current membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, NCS)
  • Experience: Significant experience working therapeutically with neurodivergent young people
  • Approach: Commitment to a neurodivergent affirming and client-centred framework
  • Gaming Knowledge: Demonstrable experience and interest in gaming, with familiarity with Minecraft being essential
  • Must be self‑employed (e.g., sole trader or limited company) with an existing private practice
  • Must hold current professional indemnity insurance
  • Must be registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office)
  • Commitment: Willingness to undertake and complete the fully funded Ellie Finch's Counselling Using Minecraft training

What MindJam Offers

  • Innovative Work: The opportunity to be at the forefront of creative and engaging therapeutic delivery
  • Fully Funded Training: Significant investment in your professional development with fully paid specialist training
  • Flexibility: Work that can supplement and fit alongside your existing self‑employed private practice
  • Supportive Team: Collaboration with an experienced counsellor and the broader supportive MindJam team

How to Apply

If you are a self-employed counsellor with a passion for supporting neurodivergent young people, meet the professional compliance requirements, and are excited by the prospect of using Minecraft in your practice, we would love to hear from you.
